Binocular Vision: Only Half a Brain Needed
نویسنده
چکیده
A recent study on zebrafish has shown that, by rerouting afferents from two eyes into a normally monocular brain structure, a fully functional binocular circuitry can be made to develop spontaneously.

Background : To determine the effect of binocular summation on the time domain transient VEP wave's components. Methods : The monocular and binocular transient visual evoked potentials of 21 normally vision volunteers 18 to 24 years (mean ± SD, 20.7 ± 1.9) during a reversing checkerboard stimulus with spatiotemporal frequency of 2.18-4 cpd-Hz were recorded. The amplitude and latency of N75,...
متن کاملEye rivalry and object rivalry in the intact and split-brain
Both the eye of origin and the images themselves have been found to rival during binocular rivalry. We presented traditional binocular rivalry stimuli (face to one eye, house to the other) and Diaz-Caneja stimuli (half of each image to each eye) centrally to both a split-brain participant and a control group. With traditional rivalry stimuli both the split-brain participant and age-matched cont...
متن کاملLingering Binocular Vision Issues after a Suspected Concussion: A Case Study
Past clinical research using eye tracking with patients who have known concussions shown deficits in eye-target synchronization, smooth pursuit eye movements, velocity error and positioning errors [1,2]. Clinical assessments of suspected brain injuries include gross assessments of oculomotor abilities (such as the Vestibular Ocular Motor Screening (VOMS) [3]. However, quantitative, and highly s...
متن کاملNasotemporal overlap in visual field projected to lateral geniculate nucleus in the cat.
IN ANIMALS with welI-developed binocular vision, such as the cat, monkey, and man, the retina is divided into temporal and nasal halves which, respectively, send optic fibers back to the same and opposite halves of the brain so that the left hemiretinas of both eyes project to the left hemisphere of the brain and, similarly, the right hemiretinas to the right hemisphere. This means that an obje...
متن کاملAn integrative model of binocular vision: a stereo model utilizing interocularly unpaired points produces both depth and binocular rivalry
Half-occluded points (visible only in one eye) are perceived at a certain depth behind the occluding surface without binocular rivalry, even though no disparity is defined at such points. Here we propose a stereo model that reconstructs 3D structures not only from disparity information of interocularly paired points but also from unpaired points. Starting with an array of depth detection cells,...
